The Conscious Kit is a 5-week 0-1 startup launch endeavor with a mission to revolutionize the household cleaning industry and contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment using an upstream approach to tackle recycling plastics.

Problem identification

Our journey began with identifying key issues in the household cleaning industry through conducting primary and secondary research.

Hypothesis

We proposed that providing people with the option of convenient, cost-effective, and eco-friendly cleaning products would encourage them to purchase such products and reduce their single-use plastic and chemical waste. To verify this, we engaged with potential customers and suppliers, planning to synthesize and analyze their responses.

Solution

The Conscious Kit takes an upstream approach to tackle recycling plastics by offering a subscription-based model for high-quality, eco-friendly household cleaning products. Our solution aims to reduce plastic waste, chemical exposure, and the use of single-use packaging while supporting local women-led sustainable businesses.

The Conscious Kit offers a unique set of advantages over its competitors, including cost-effectiveness, convenience, high-quality products, single-use plastic-free options, eco-friendliness, and support for minority-women led businesses.

Business model

The Conscious Kit's business model revolves around a subscription-based sales approach for cleaning refill tabs every 3 months, complemented by the collection of purchased bottles back in case of customer opt-out, and offering free shipping.

The company's unique selling proposition includes a focus on reduced carbon emissions, local delivery, lighter packaging, and emphasis on sustainable living.

Impact

We are aiming to contribute to the reduction of single-use plastic wastage, promotion of sustainable living, supporting local suppliers of eco-friendly cleaning tabs and bottles, and reducing emissions through optimized delivery schedules.

Maria's role in the team: design research, web experience, visuals, prototyping and testing, business strategy and business plan, product management, team leadership.
